Dr. Mustafa Nakawa

Dr. Mustafa Nakawa, a distinguished physician and humanitarian. Born in Daraa, Syria, Dr. Nakawa’s journey has been defined by his dedication to the medical profession and his commitment to serving others.

After completing his medical education at Omdurman Islamic University Faculty of Medicine in Sudan in 2009, Dr. Nakawa pursued his residency at Tufts Family Medicine at Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This esteemed institution, dual-affiliated with Tufts and Harvard universities, honed his skills and solidified his passion for family medicine.

Currently, Dr. Nakawa serves as the Chief of Family Medicine and Director of Population Health at Methodist Hospitals in Merrillville, Indiana. In addition to his work at the hospital, Dr. Nakawa is also the Founder and Provider of Way Less Clinic, a facility dedicated to providing affordable weight loss and wellness solutions to his community.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Nakawa is a dedicated family man, married to Serene Jabri, an educator, and a loving father to Jamal and Safiya. In his spare time, Dr. Nakawa enjoys outdoor adventures, creating new things, and exploring his passion for cooking.

Dr. Nakawa’s commitment to humanitarian efforts shines through his involvement with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). Since 2014, Dr. Nakawa has been an active member of the organization, contributing his expertise to the Education Committee, leading interview workshops, and sponsoring students through the SAMS Observership Program.

For Dr. Nakawa, SAMS represents a beacon of hope and healing, connecting Syrian doctors in the USA to make a difference in the lives of others and forge lasting friendships. Through his work with SAMS, Dr. Nakawa is able to give back to his community and support the next generation of Syrian medical professionals, embodying the spirit of compassion and dedication that defines his career in medicine.
