Member Under the Spotlight:

Dr. Randa Loutfi

Dr. Randa Loutfi was born in Damascus, Syria. She graduated from Damascus University’s Faculty of Medicine and did her pediatric training and chief residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. She worked as a pediatric hospitalist in Illinois and a consultant in northwest Indiana before committing to a full-time position with SAMS. 
 
Dr. Loutfi’s involvement with SAMS began as a member of the Midwest chapter and then as a chapter board member. She was elected to the SAMS National Board of Directors in 2011, serving two consecutive terms. She also assumed the treasurer position of the first Foundation Board. During her role as a board member, Dr. Loutfi led the human resources committee and joined the bylaws and scholarship committees. She contributed to launching the Save Syrian Lives Campaign, SSLC, in 2012 in response to the crisis in Syria, the establishment of SAMS offices in the region, and the founding of the American Relief Coalition for Syria (ARCS), and was SAMS representative to UOSSM, the International Union of Medical Care and relief Organizations in Paris. 

In 2015, Dr. Loutfi started her current role with SAMS Foundation as the Director of Programs. She works with SAMS country representatives and SAMS medical specialists’ committees on developing and improving medical program models, standards, and capacity building to ensure best implementation practices, high-quality projects, and effective services and reporting. This includes facilitating collaboration with potential partners among other international and local organizations. She also participates in evaluating and setting standards for different scholarship opportunities for Syrian students and graduates in the healthcare field.
 
Dr. Loutfi supervises the dedicated HQ teams in the Grant and Business Development department, the Data & Research department, the Medical Missions coordination, the Mental Health programs, SAMS Europe and Global projects, and the new Healthcare Providers Education and Professional Development Initiative under SAMS Institute.  

She is married to Dr. Muhammad Mazen Kudaimi, a gastroenterologist who is a committed SAMS member and medical mission participant. She is a mother of six children, three of whom are volunteers with SAMS medical missions and Midwest Chapter Free Clinic in Illinois. She enjoys traveling, reading, cooking international traditional dishes, and experimenting with cross-cultural cuisines.
