Advancing Humanitarian Healthcare Since 2012
Founded in 2012, the California Chapter of the Syrian American Medical Society was established to advance the organization’s humanitarian mission by mobilizing community support and critical resources for medical relief efforts in Syria. Right after its inception, the Chapter lead two missions to Aleppo in August and December in 2012.
From its early years, the Chapter focused on structured fundraising initiatives and the procurement of essential medical supplies and medications for shipment to underserved populations in Syria. Through strategic planning, disciplined governance, and strong community engagement, the California Chapter quickly became one of the most active and impactful chapters nationwide.
What began as a grassroots effort evolved into a leading model of chapter-driven impact within SAMS.
Building a Legacy Through Signature Galas
Over the years, the Chapter has hosted two National Galas in:
- San Diego
- Huntington Beach
Both events were recognized among the most successful in the organization’s history in terms of attendance, fundraising performance, and community visibility.
Today, the Annual Gala remains the cornerstone of the Chapter’s engagement strategy — bringing together elected officials, healthcare professionals, philanthropic leaders, and dedicated supporters who share a unified commitment to strengthening healthcare systems in Syria.
These gatherings are not merely fundraising events; they are platforms of solidarity, advocacy, and long-term partnership building.
2026 Annual Gala – A Milestone of Impact
On January 31, 2026, the California Chapter hosted its Annual Gala in Newport Beach, marking another milestone in its history of impact.
The event supported the Bone Marrow Transplant Program in Damascus, dedicated to providing life-saving treatment for children battling cancer.

“This is a partnership between SAMS CA, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Children’s Hospital of Damascus. Together, we are committed to providing financial, technical, and educational support to children in need of life-saving transplantation. This collaboration represents hope, healing, and a brighter future for countless young lives.”

Our community understands that sustainable impact requires long-term commitment, strategic planning, and unity.
Every gala, every initiative, and every partnership is a step toward strengthening healthcare access for the most vulnerable patients in Syria.”
His words echo the collective commitment that defines the Chapter’s work year after year.
Impact Beyond Events
While galas serve as a visible milestone, the Chapter’s work extends far beyond a single evening. Through continuous outreach, donor stewardship, and community partnerships, the California Chapter plays a critical role in sustaining medical programs that provide life-saving services across Syria.
Its ongoing dedication reflects a broader principle at the heart of SAMS: humanitarian healthcare must be both immediate and sustainable.
