From Aleppo to Michigan, Dr. Ammar Sukari’s journey is one of dedication and leadership in medicine.
A graduate of Aleppo University (1998), Dr. Sukari trained in internal medicine in Syria before continuing his education in the U.S., completing his oncology fellowship in 2006. Today, he is a Professor of Oncology at Wayne State University and Division Chief at Karmanos Cancer Institute, where he plays a leading role in advancing cancer care across Michigan.
Dr. Sukari joined SAMS in 2010, helped establish the Michigan chapter in 2011, and served as its president since July 2024!
In 2025, he was elected to the SAMS Society Board of Directors (2025–2027).
A father of four with a passion for nature, Dr. Sukari believes medicine is a calling to serve selflessly:
“SAMS is like a family — an outlet to be a true humanitarian.”
We’re proud to honor Dr. Sukari — a physician whose compassion and commitment inspire us all.
