Dr. Rasheed Alahmad, a native of Homs, Syria, is a shining example of dedication and passion in the field of healthcare. As a post-doctoral research fellow at Wayne State University’s Stress, Trauma, Anxiety, Research Clinic (STARC), Rasheed is committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by conflict and displacement.
Dr. Alahmad completed his medical school training at Al-Baath University in Homs and went on to finish two years of Neurology residency in Syria. His journey then took him to the United States, where he currently works on innovative research projects, including investigating the psychological toll of war on Syrian refugees in Michigan and developing cutting-edge technology to treat social anxiety and phobias.
Rasheed’s involvement with SAMS is a testament to his commitment to giving back to his community. As the chair of SAMS International Medical Graduates subcommittee, he works tirelessly to support Syrian medical graduates in pursuing their medical careers and securing residency spots.
For Rasheed, SAMS represents a movement that embodies compassion, resilience, and hope. He believes that being part of SAMS offers opportunities for meaningful work, personal growth, and advocacy for those who cannot advocate for themselves.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Rasheed enjoys staying active through hiking, basketball, and swimming. These hobbies not only provide a healthy work-life balance but also serve as a source of inspiration and rejuvenation for his work with SAMS.
