From Damascus to Leading Medical Initiatives in the U.S., Dr. Tarek Jazaerly’s journey reflects dedication and passion.
After completing his medical education at Damascus University, Dr. Jazaerly pursued residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center and fellowships in Hematopathology and Surgical Pathology. He now practices as an anatomic/clinical pathologist at UW Northern Illinois/SwedishAmerican Hospital and serves as the Laboratory Director at the Carbone Cancer Center in Rockford.
Dr. Jazaerly’s involvement with SAMS began in 2012, and since 2018, he has been an active contributor, serving as Chair of the Oncology Committee and Program Director of the SAMS Pathology Residency Program. He played a key role in establishing a pathology lab with advanced services. In 2025, he was elected to the SAMS Society Board of Directors.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jazaerly enjoys music, playing the Oud and Nay, and spending time with his wife, Nour Almardini, and their children, Aman and Luha.
Dr. Jazaerly says, “SAMS is a collective effort working for a noble cause, and that’s what motivates me to keep giving back.”
